Turnesol

Turnesol

After taking loads of time in getting the Danjuro Dagger, I have decided to go after the 2nd best sword in the game…the Turnesol.

I started out the last stream gathering the items needed to create the recipe to create the sword and I have come to find out why this sword is so hard to get.  As stated above this sword requires 600,000 Gil, now depending on if you were able to save money this shouldn’t be a problem for most people.  The License Board should also not be a problem as I was able to fill mine for all characters around level 50.  But the big thing that makes this sword difficult is the rare items it takes to create it.  Here are the items needed and the strategies to obtain them.  This link has more details inside, I just wanted to give you a quick view into what all is needed: Source GameFAQ’s

So as you can see below this is no small task.  My last stream I don’t even think I was able to finish off the first round of Gemsteels.  What will be a big pain is probably the High Arcana.  This item is pretty rare, but according to some of the forums and stuff I have found, Dustia should drop them more than most monsters, but it will still take some time to do it.

Info on the Turnesol

The Sunflower – A single, beautiful sunflower. Brilliant as the sun, wondrous as creation.
—Bazaar Description

The Tournesol (??????, Tourunusoru) is a weapon in Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift, in both games being one of the most powerful weapons obtainable.

The Tournesol is the strongest Greatsword available in Final Fantasy XII. Its license is found at the bottom right corner of the License Board. While it appears that the sword needs only three respective loots to synthesize, those items must also be synthesized first, and the total eight loots required can be very hard to obtain in numbers. The Tournesol costs 225 LP; and 600,000 Gil. It has an attack power of 140, topped only by the game’s strongest weapon, Zodiac Spear. While lacking a few points in attack power, the Tournesol exceeds the Zodiac Spear in terms of multi-hit and evasion rate. It is also one of the swords used by Gilgamesh.

So probably my next couple streams will encompass me going after this weapon.

Once I obtain the Turnesol I will prob knock a couple things off my to do list, as I would like to get going on another game.

So here is what I have left:

So join me on Fridays as I go after the Turnesol with music provided by FinalfantasyRadio.com.

Danjuro Dagger

Danjuro Dagger

Well after 3 Fridays and a couple random streaming days I have finally obtained the Danjuro Dagger.  This weapon has by far taken me more time than any other weapon to get.  I have to admit, I was thinking of just saying screw this and going on, but I figured I would give it a couple more tries.  This last stream it took easily over a 100 gargoyels and over 200 Necros to spawn this monster…so to go for this weapon you must have patience!!

Daggers gain speed over Swords  at the expense of attack power. Several Daggers also have useful additional effects.

For this class of weapon, the damage output is determined by your character’s strength and speed compared against the enemy’s defense.

So here’s how I did it:

Larva Eater

Larva Eater

  • I roamed the 3 areas in Giruvegan before you go into the Great Crystal
  • Chained up to around 115 gargoyles
  • Went inside the Great Crystal and into the area of the Leo Gate Switch
  • Clear this whole area of Necros by KILLING THEM WITH POISON!! VERY IMPORTANT (If you don’t kill with poison you will lose the chain and lose the chance at getting best possible drop -  See below for Gambits)
  • Once I cleared that area I then began zoning between the Leo Gate area and the XIV gate until the Larva Eater appeared
  • If the Larva Eater doesn’t appear after several attempts go through the Leo Gate to the zone after that and then back…some times 2 gates helps with spawning
  • If you see Reapers…go back and kill more necros…they usually show up because the number of enemies that you have killed is divisible by 3
  • If you kill the Larva Eater and you did not get the dagger, you must zone away 3 areas and return and repeat

Watch live video from Dtrot’s Gaming Channel on Justin.tv

Gambits (DO NOT HAVE A ATTACK GAMBIT — LET POISON KILL THE NECROS):

Ashe (Staff of the Magi):

  • Foe HP >= 10,000 –>  Holy
  • Foe Any –>  Sleepga

Balthier (Shield):

  • Foe Any –>  Sleepga
  • Foe Any –>  Blindga
  • Foe HP < 10,000 –>  Poison  (Don’t use Toxify)

Basch (Shield):

  • Foe Any –> Sleepga
  • Foe Any –> Silencega
  • Foe Any –> Slowga
  • Foe HP < 10,000 –> Poison

This took many attempts, do not be surprised if it takes up to 3 hours just to spawn this monster.  Keep zoning and killing necros and eventually he will spawn.  Feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions.

So here is what I have left:

Danjuro Dagger

Danjuro Dagger

Some of my plans may be pushed back some due to me still having to try and spawn the Larva Eater.  During my last Simulcast with FinalFantasyRadio.com, I was able to spawn the Larva Eater about 5 times and I only received 2 drops which were just DemonEyeballs.

So what does that mean for me?  I will continue to grind this out!!  So be sure to join me again Live with FinalFantasyRadio.com while I try to obtain the Danjuro Dagger in Final Fantasy XII.

So here is my plan for my next Live Stream on Justin.TV:

Go back and Chain about 150 gargoyles, then run back to the way stone and then clear out the necros around the leo switch by doing the poison method.  I use this method in order to not lose the chain that I have created and by creating that chain my drop chances for better items goes up.

So make sure to join FinalFantasyRadio.com and myself for more grinding on Friday March 12th, 2010.  Be sure to vote for my next game and also fan the page if you enjoy the gaming and the music.

Larva Eater Information:

Larva Eater

Larva Eater

Bestiary Entry

DerivationGargoyle

Gargoyle oft appearing in the legendary of the ancient city. This strain, as yet unrecorded in the Camp annals, is hunted in Giruvegan.

Requirement

The Danjuro is one of the strongest weapons in the game, and the only way to retrieve this weapon is through Larva Eater. Recently, it was discovered that you do NOT need to defeat 256 foes to make Larva Eater to spawn in either A Prama Vikaari, A Vikaari Dhebon, Dha Vikaari Bhrum, A Vikaari Kabonii, Dha Vikaari Trahk, A Vikaari Bhrum, Dha Vikaari Jula, A Vikaari Kanbhru Ra, Dha Vikari Kabonii, Dha Vikaari Dhebon Praa, Dha Vikaari Dhebon Pratii, A Vikaari Uldobi, Dha Vikaari Sirhru, or A Vikaari Kanbhru.

You only need to clear the Necrophobes in the area with the Leo Gate Stone, then keep zoning between the area with the Leo Gate Stone and the Waystone XIV area until Larva Eater appears in the Waystone XIV area. If he does not drop Danjuro, zone two areas away from the Waystone XIV area (through the Leo Gate Stone area so the Necrophobes do not respawn), return to the Leo Gate Stone area and again start zoning between the Leo Gate Stone area and the Waystone XIV area until he appears in the Waystone XIV area. It is important to ensure that at least five Necrophobes successfully divide while clearing them in order to spawn Larva Eater in this way. This causes the game to somehow think that enemies are still being killed while zoning.

Larva Eater will continually appear this way, but caution should be taken, as some Reapers might be found floating around Larva Eater. Cast Vanishga without them seeing you to make sure you do not break your Larva Eater chain by accident.

Chaos (Esper)

Chaos (Esper)

Watch me live on Friday(March 5th) here

Last Friday was a long and tedious gaming session and man did FinalFantasyRadio keep it interesting.  After fighting Fury, Chaos (Esper) and some other monster that I can’t remember the name of, I took on the task of going for the Danjuro.  This is where FinalFantasyRadio kicked in.  After about 2.5 hours of killing enemies and zoning back and forth, I was able to spawn the rare monster Larva Eater.  I can’t tell you how excited I was when I saw it spawn, because I seriously was having a hard time keeping my eyes open with all the repetition.  So again 2.5 hours to spawn the thing and about 45 seconds to kill it and guess what!  IT DIDN’T EVEN DROP ANYTHING!!! And to top it off, I lost a 270 kill chain after I killed it.   So I will have to add this back on my list of things to do for my next cast.

I really am debating on doing the Hunt Club due to the fact that if I almost fell asleep trying to get 1 rare to spawn…well the Hunt Club you have to hunt somewhere around 30 rare monsters, I think.

So here is a recap of what I was able to accomplish Friday (Feb 26th):

  • Collected all medallions
  • Defeated Esper Chaos
  • Killed 1 Larva Eater ( after 2.5 hours trying to get it to spawn)

I know it doesn’t seem like I accomplished much, right?  Well, I actually did get some stuff done that I didn’t have on the list earlier.  I was able to level up Balthier and Basch to about lvl 70 and I gathered a lot of loot.

So here is what I hope to get done in my next 3-5 cast:

Here is some info on Omega Mark XII:

Omega Mark XII

Omega Mark XII

An ancient weapon of war, traveling the rifts between dimensions. Its body is set with machineries and weaponry of a far higher order than anything made today. Though it is a construct, it was built with the ability to grow, and so it has evolved like a living creature.

It generates the energy it needs to live by filtering and condensing Mist from the air.

According to the Clan Primer entry, Omega Mk. XII is a construct of machine and weaponry that was created to battle a great Wyrm, possibly the Hell Wyrm or Yiazmat. This could also be a reference to Shinryu, if it truly is the same Omega from previous games. Omega was also given the ability to grow and evolve. It was left in the Great Crystal and allowed to grow on its own, using the Mist as an energy source. The story from the Urutan-Yensa bestiary entry seems to tell of the creation of Omega Mark XII, and implies that the creator lost track of it after its tracking devices were destroyed in a battle of some sort.

In the Japanese version of Final Fantasy XII, Omega has a little more than 10 Million HP, making him second only to Yiazmat. But for the North American and PAL versions, it’s HP was reduced to a mere 1 Million, less than the Hell Wyrm and even a couple of the higher Marks.
The North American and PAL versions of Omega also added the berserk status effect onto Omega’s attack. Whatever the reasons for this change, Omega is still one of the toughest battles, being the only enemy at Level 99 with the highest strength, defense and magic power.

Info on Yiazmat:

Yiazmat

Yiazmat

Yiazmat is the Ultimate Elite Mark from Final Fantasy XII. He is not only the ultimate mark, but also the ultimate boss. Defeating Yiazmat will take at least fifty minutes at very high levels and player skill; but the fight usually takes hours. He is considered to be one of the series’ most difficult superbosses. To date, he has the highest number of hit points of any creature, boss, or superboss in the entire Final Fantasy series, with well over 50 million hit points. This astronomically high number is the main reason he takes so long to kill, since no player’s attack in the entire game exceeds 50,000 points of damage at any one time (unless you use Quickenings or a fully charged Dark Matter/Soul Purge), except in Final Fantasy XII: International Zodiac Job System, where you can deal up to 60,000 points of damage.

Its name is a reference to director Yasumi Matsuno‘s nickname (Yazumi Matsuno). The additional “i” in Yiazmat’s name is not present in the Japanese version, likely being a localization decision to associate it closer to “Tiamat”.

Bestiary Entry

Genus: Ultimate Mark
Classification: ???

One Deity among Dragons, One great Wyrm to rule all Wyrms of the World, by the Creator Himself created. Legend says it is an Anima, Guardian to a Sacred Blade. Though most sacred among its Kind, its great Power drove it to Madness, and in the End, it became a Threat to its own Creator. His Master was killed by Yiazmat, robbing Montblanc of all Joy in Life, and he would have Revenge.
